Review Tour: Rebounding by Shanna Clayton
Charlotte Hart will do anything to escape the life she once adored, even if that means moving in with a mysterious guy from her past.
When the girl who saved Max Archer’s life shows up on his doorstep, he knows he can’t turn her away.
Neither of them can let go of their pasts. Both of them are living a lie. If they can’t figure out how to rebound, they’re destined to crash and burn.
We first met Charlotte in Pretending, Wes and Doll’s story. We found out in Pretending that Char’s boyfriend, Miles cheated on her and she wishes to drop from school and move away. Rebounding takes place a few months after that incident.
Two years ago, Char saved the life of a guy who was being stabbed repeatedly. Max Archer did not wish to be saved, but still a beautiful girl saved his life. He doesn’t like to owe debts, but he ends up owing Char the biggest debt of all. Now two years later, Char is ready to cash in on that favor Max promised her.
All Char wants is to move away from Gainesville, and the life that meant the world to her. So she shows up at Max Archer’s doorstep, requesting a place to stay. Max can’t forget the girl who saved his life. And when she shows up at his doorstep, he knows he can’t turn her away.
Rebounding was a heartfelt book. I loved the way Char picked up the pieces and moved on with her life. She found new friends in Trevor and Stephanie and even in Max. I also like the fact that she could finally spend time with herself and figure out who she is. And the person she is, is a wonderful, strong, funny, independent woman.
Max’s parents were murdered, and his sister kidnapped, when he was eight years old. Till date he is trying to find the man who ruined his life and took everything away from him. Throughout the book Max is pretty much on a suicide mission. He doesn’t care if he dies. All he cares is that the man who murdered his parents, David Garcia is killed. His cousin, Trevor too can’t get him to see straight. It’s only when Charlotte comes into his life that he even starts to think about living his life.
I loved the chemistry between Charlotte and Max. It was subtle, yet glaring. There was a give and take in their relationship. They both equally took care of each other and brought each other back from the brink.
The secondary characters like Trevor, Stephanie and Char’s brother Luke also made a nice addition to the story. Overall a beautifully written story from Shanna Clayton.
