ARC Review: The Trouble With Love by Lauren Layne
I’ve been waiting for Alex and Emma’s story since I first met them in Love the One You’re With . Oh how I love them both. The Trouble With Love is one of the best book in the Sex, Love & Stiletto series. This is also one of the most emotional book in the series.
Second chance romance has always been one of my favorite tropes in romance, and The Trouble With Love delivers with aplomb. As the heat-ache and break-up expert of the Stiletto magazine, Emma Sinclair writes from personal experience. After her broken engagement with Alex Cassidy her views on love and romance is purely cynical. Though she is happy for her friends that they have found love, she herself has no wishes for the same.
Alex Cassidy loved Emma Sinclair seven years ago, and he loves her now. But he has no idea how to prove that to her. After a severe knee injury Alex’s dream of going pro are shattered, but it is only a coincidence that all these years later he is working in the same field, in the same city and in the same building as his ex-fiancée. And it is a complete coincidence that Emma has moved in next door to him. Yeah, no. That’s Camille at play.
With Camille gone on a trip with her latest boy toy Alex and Emma are required to work closely together and since Emma’s house has flooded and as Camille was sweet enough to loan her home to Emma, she also has to live right next door to Alex.
I absolutely loved this book. This was fun as well as emotional. Emma is no longer the sweet, chic girl Alex knew seven years ago. She is a capable, independent, self-reliant woman who needs no one. But in the deepest parts of her heart Emma knows that isn’t true. She too longs for the happily ever after her friends have found.
Emma grows a lot in the course of this book. She learns to open her heart again, to let down her guard and let Alex in. All those years ago when Alex left her at the altar something broke in Emma. Now Alex is willing to move heaven and earth to weld what he broke.
With time and patience Emma and Alex learn the truth about the what really happened seven years ago. It was only misunderstandings that broke them apart. Though I am glad they broke up seven years ago, because now both Emma and Alex have grown and learned from their mistakes.
I loved Alex in this book. The way he fought for Emma was remarkable. That made up for what he did seven years ago. Their past broke my heart but when they came together in the end it was all the more sweeter because of the pain they have been through. And the sexual tension was high throughout the book. You could light a fire with all that tension between them.
As I said before, this was also the most emotional book in the series and I cried. I cried so much. Emma’s pain was palpable and it broke my heart. But by the end of the book I was the happiest person on earth (or at least in my home).
A perfectly beautiful ending to a lovable series. The Trouble With Love was everything I hoped for and more. Lauren Layne did an outstanding job with this book. A highly recommended book and series.
